My husband received the most wonderful care at Southampton after being referred by our GP to the rapid chest pain clinic.
We were welcomed to the unit and seen promptly on arrival.
The sister and Doctor were very thorough and quickly arranged for a stress echo.
The same unit conducted this test just a week later and were so incredibly kind to my husband during this exercise which he found very difficult.
The diagnosis resulted in an angiogram being needed and referral to a consultant was processed and we were fully advised as to symptoms and concerns that we had until the procedure came through.
The final result was the insertion of stents and am delighted that all is 100% perfect. All the staff involved were incredibly kind, patient and courteous to us at all times. Everything was dicussed and explained which we found reassuring .
Thank you to all concerned
staff appear pushed for time, poor skill mix, lack of resources, locations grubby
Too many agency staff, HCA staff undertaking registered nurse roles (eg clinical monitoring of patients), poor acute pain control offered post operatively.
Agency staff working full of flu - coughing and sneezing all over patients - didn't seam to care either!
Ward dirty and run down, fabric of walls & ceilings decaying (neurosurgery ward). Splatters noted on ceilings (what else do you have to stare at for 48 hours post spinal surgery!) - these could have been coffee, rust or even dried blood!
Not enough beds.
Clinical confidentiallty poor in cramped and unsuitable environment.
I was kept in recovery for 3 hours waiting for ward space, post elective procedure - then sent to a different ward, not used to nursing a patient with this surgery = result was a weekend of hell!
Everywhere was noisy, can here everything about other patients.
Operation cancelled twice, the last one with no notice!
So helpful and understanding - would recommend to anyone!
Thank you so much
Very fast and professional service.
On 5th June 2015 my 93 year old mother had a severe stroke whilst in hospital and was admitted to the Hyper Acute Stroke unit where sadly she was put on an end of life pathway. She spent 5 days in this unit and was then moved to the Acute Stroke Unit where she died peacefully 3 days later. I cannot fault the loving care my mother received from the staff in both units, they looked after me too as I slept by her bed for the last 2 nights of her life. I have nothing but praise and send a big thank you to all the staff, my mother died with great dignity.
From the porters to the housekeepers , health care workers, nurses and doctors they were all fantastic.Cannot fault my care on F1.
Can't think of anything more that could have been done to make the experience better - I was seen on time, I didn't have to wait long, people were courteous and kind - good experience generally.
At Southampton General is an extremely busy hospital I was surprised at the quick response and care that I received, in general all the staff listened to me.
On the downside the meals I felt were not quite up to scratch - they could be improved more variety and better tasting.
The car parking charges are excessive for anybody visiting patient also when you become an outpatient because treatment times were difficult to judge (lots of waiting between treatments) it made it very expensive to use the car park.
All the staff were polite and friendly but professional at the same time. The department was very clean and bright.
